Problems with k3b library in Kubuntu

About a month ago, Kubuntu tried to update the "k3b" package.

Then for some reason the updates were "rolled back".

Since then, the changes remained pending in the "adept" package manager which is started from the "add/remove programs" selection on the main menu in Kubuntu.

I tried using the --fix-broken switch with aptitude, but the package remained in the strange half-installed state.

Finally, I decided to use the grpahic tool to remove the package and re-install. This seemed to fix the problem.

After this, the log /var/log/dpkg.log, contained several entries. Among them were some details about removing the old k3b library and re-installing a new k3b library. I gather that this must have been the cause of the problem.

This particular corruption may have crept in because the machine in question has faulty RAM.
