Such a result would have been unthinkable 20 years ago. Ireland only decriminalised homosexuality in 1993.
This makes big headlines in the USA and Australian, both of whom have a significant and influential "Irish diaspora".
In Australia, your humble blogger suspects that many folks who express an interest in "Gay rights" are not really very interested in rights for homosexual folks ... They are expressing interest only because they perceive it as a "wedge issue" that can be used to damage the current government.
Imagine that dear reader! How cynical! That there might be people who are willing to stoop so low as to exploit issues like this for political gain! And to use such tactics against that nice Mr Abbott (and his nice factional mates) ... And your humble blogger must say, in all sincerity, that it couldn't happen to a nicer bloke (or a nicer faction).
