Date: Sun, 13 Aug 2017 18:46:00 +1000 Over the previous several months, your humble blogger has composed several
blog entries about the erstwhile swing to the right in politics, especially in
America. And there have been a few posts comparing Donald Trump to a "clown".
But today it seems Donald Trump's rhetoric has taken him to a place that is
"beyond the pale" for an American President.

Yes, there are two paths you can go by
But in the long run ...
There's still time to change the road you're on
-- A Timeless Classic
On the 12th of August, the city of Charlottesville was swamped by ultra-right wing nationalists protesting about the removal of Confederate monuments. One of them committed a murderous assault by driving his car directly into a large group of counter-protesters,
In the aftermath, President Trump made some soft mealy-mouthed mewling noises in the general direction of Charlottesville .. And then after being criticised for not taking a stronger stand against neo-fascism, he came up with the following extraordinary statement:
"(There are) some very fine people on both sides".
For once, your blogger is speechless ... This is beyond sarcasm ... Beyond Satire ... How did we get here? After fighting an appalling war against fascism in the 20th century, and ultimately defeating that despicable creed, your blogger is now hearing this pusillanimous drivel dribbling from the mouth of the President of the United States of America ... To the effect that there are some very fine fascists in the world?
Now it is remotely possibility that there might be some very fine fascists in this world, or maybe in some alternative universe. However your humble blogger is yet to meet one ... And even if there were ... If the president of the United States says so ... Then dear reader, it is your blogger's most humble opinion that: This is just not acceptable!
Seriously Dear Reader (not a shred of sarcasm) ... It is just not acceptable ... And neither are his "very fine" neo-fascist buddies.
