Justice Michael Lee has found that, on the balance of probabilities, the accusations made by Ms Higgins concerning Lehrmann were true. The judge wryly quipped:
Having escaped the lion's den, Mr Lehrmann made the mistake of going back for his hat
It seems that Bruce Lehrmann is no Indiana Jones ... The following has been taken from my outbox:
If you didn't catch tonight's "Media Watch" on ABC TV ... Then I recommend you check it out on iView or Youtube. Overall it didn't sound good for Murdoch ,., Oh dear! WTF will happen if we no longer had the loud and clear voice of the Murdoch press telling us how to think about world events? It's OK you don't have to answer that question. On the one hand, it seems that Bruce Lehrmann scored an own goal ... After successfully avoiding prosecution for the (quite justifiable) allegation of rape on the slimmest of technical decisions... He made the extraordinary decision to sue for defamation ... Which any 1st year law student would have told him ... Since it was a civil suit, it had a lower threshold when it comes to "proof" ... In the criminal case (that Lehrmann and his collaborators torpedoed) the prosecution would have been required to prove the case "beyond reasonable doubt" ... Whereas in the civil suit, to my understanding, it was only required to be proven within the "balance of probabilities" .. And it seems that Justice Lee has found, on the balance of probabilities, that Lehrmann is the scumbag rapist that the prosecution alleged in the now abandoned original trial. WTF!!? Who does that? It's like having the referee rule in your favour after you cheated ... And then insisting on a detailed video replay ... Which, of course, reveals that you cheated! Why would you do that? I dunno ... Maybe he should ask Ben Roberts Smith (or Donald Trump)?
But it also seems that the Murdoch press has problems in the UK ... A "massive" payout to Hugh Grant .., And another possible (equally massive) payout to Prince Harry. Add this to the "humongous" payouts in the US (against Fox) ... And we must be aghast ... What is happening to FREE SPEECH?? Sorry for putting that in capitals ... Maybe I've been seeing too many of Dementia J. Trump's untruth posts splashed across the screen in "Planet America"? ... Anyhow, it seems that speech might be free ... But lies can cost you a s***load of money!
What is the world coming to? When will it all end? (WW III? Let's hope not).
