I also noticed that aspell would not dump the master dictionary. Normally to get a dump of the master dictionary, you should enter:
aspell --dump masterHowever when I tried this I got the following message:
Error: The file "/usr/lib/aspell/en_AU" can not be opened for reading.
Generally I seem to have difficulty getting support for the Australian language so I have opted to use the (UK) English setting. That is a bitter pill for me swallow, on the eve of our cricket team losing the ashes, but I am too lazy to work out how to install the custom dictionaries for Australia (which I believe are available).
- In Ubuntu go to the language settings in the System menu, System->Administration->Language Support.
- In Kubuntu, go to System Settings (on the main menu), and choose Regional & Language.
Also, inside the document, in Open Office, you will need to set the language. Use Tools->Options->Language Settings. If you need to adjust individual documents, use Tools->Language->for All text
